Supporting the Support Networks: Interacting with Families and Parents

In education abroad today, practitioners connect with as many families as we do participants. We may want to ignore the email or hang up the phone, but engaging with with participants’ families is critical for the future of our programs. Through reflection exercises and group discussion, panelists will facilitate an interactive roundtable on promising practices for engaging with support networks. The group will take a practical approach with the newly released A Family Guide to Study Abroad.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will connect and find common ground with colleagues about interactions with families / parents / support networks of participants.
  • Through guided self-reflection and group exercises, participants will identify three most common questions asked by families / parents / support networks at their institution.
  • Participants will work together to crowdsource potential solutions and resources for common questions.
  • Participants will review key components of the IIE-AIFS Family Guide to Study Abroad and consider how to share that information with their networks.
