Access Granted: Empowering Disabled Pros in International Ed

Every single person is only temporarily able-bodied. This session explores disability inclusion and advocacy in international education, emphasizing the empowerment of disabled professionals. Attendees will examine biases and improve accessibility in their offices, learning to advocate for themselves and colleagues. Participants will gain tools to balance needs, support others, and drive institutional change, fostering a more inclusive educational environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will be able to outline the importance of disability inclusion and advocacy for all professionals in the field of international education, regardless of (dis)ability status. You can’t support students if you’re not supporting your colleagues.
  • Attendees will examine their own biases and practices within their office (including current accessibility and support levels to reframe support for colleagues and supervisees, with the goal of identifying elements that need reconstructing or improving to make their work environment more disability-inclusive.
  • Attendees will be empowered to advocate for disability inclusion for themselves, their colleagues, and in turn, their students in international education settings.
