As study abroad professionals and faculty leaders, we want every student to have the opportunity to study abroad. But how do we make sure we are reaching all students where they are – especially students from diverse backgrounds? This interactive session will use case studies from three campuses to share success stories, data, and strategies for creatively engaging student athletes, students with traditionally “difficult” majors, and historically underrepresented students.

Learning Objectives:

Using a data-driven approach, participants will be able to define the recruitment “gap” in study abroad: the difference between student intentions to study abroad, and the actual number of students who participate.
Participants will be able to apply new ways to appeal to groups currently underrepresented on study abroad programs.
Participants will be able to describe examples of creative outreach strategies on 3 different campuses that have helped bridge the recruitment gap.
Participants will be able to identify a specific strategy to take back to their own campus/organization to engage in student recruitment in a different way.
