Advancing Best Practices for Supporting Student and Staff Mental Wellbeing

The impact of providing student mental health support in global education has been given increasing attention by both scholars and practitioners in recent years. However, less attention has been paid to the ways student mental health support, and the nature of international education itself, has a profound impact on the well-being of international education staff and faculty working with students in the US and abroad. This session explores these impacts with data from new research.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the current scope of student mental health trends in the US.
  • Describe how US student mental health trends manifest during international education experiences in Europe.
  • Explore how challenges inherent to the international education context and mental health trends among US students are quantitatively impacting educators in the field using the DASS-21 instrument.
  • Discuss the impact of international education work on their team's mental health and wellbeing and define best practices to support mental well-being for both students and staff.
