The session explores best practices developed in response to a need for more diverse and inclusive global learning experiences, at an HBCU. Through the International Experiential Learning Program we implemented an emergent curriculum utilizing virtual exchange and COIL. Since the COVID-19 global pandemic, institutions continue to be challenged to change their mode of teaching and learning to expand intercultural capacity, while maintaining the students authentic experience.

Learning Objectives:

Consider best practices to respond to student interest in mobility, flexible programs and online learning under unusual conditions (e.g. a global pandemic).
Identify ways to expand study abroad opportunities for various groups of students of color to study abroad.
Have an understanding of some of the common challenges facing students of color in study abroad.
