Wandering with Purpose: Navigating Careers in Ed Abroad

Location: Willow, Mezzanine level
This lunchtime conversation aims to create a collegial atmosphere where Ed Abroad professionals can engage in a focused discussion on intergenerational learning and collaboration. Open to and encouraging participation from professionals at all stages, this gathering will focus on asking the questions “Where did you come from?” and “Where are you going?” We will explore notable topics relating to career gaps, upward mobility, mentorship, and management skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • By the end of the session, all attendees will have gained an understanding of the unique perspectives and challenges faced by Education Abroad professionals moving through different career stages, while engaging in a 360º review of themselves. Participants will be able to identify red flags in leadership that may stifle growth, to differentiate between institutional and personal challenges, and to articulate strategies for implementing boundaries and advocating for themselves within their roles.
  • Early career professionals will leave the session with a clear understanding of the challenges they may encounter at the next stages of their careers. They will identify ways to lay the groundwork for future leadership roles (if truly desired) and gain the confidence to share their transferable skills with more seasoned colleagues.
  • Mid-career professionals will be equipped to identify leadership opportunities within their current roles and visualize a pathway to their next career move, while also acknowledging that they have expertise to share both up and down the career ladder.
  • Advanced professionals will deepen their understanding of the challenges faced by early and mid-career colleagues, learning how to provide authentic support to others while simultaneously advancing their own development and growth.
