From Shoebox to Showcase: Earning Credit for Reflecting on Global Learning

Too often, a study abroad experience gets archived on Instagram or fades into a series of sepia unprocessed snapshots. Students return to campus and it's pre-professional busy-ness as usual. How can we help students slow down, unpack, and showcase their time away? At Dartmouth College, we developed a 10-week reflection-based course called "The Shoebox." In this session, we will share activities from this popular class and explain how we successfully pitched the idea it should be credit-bearing.

Learning Objectives:

Facilitate several activities designed to help students creatively unpack and critically reflect on their global learning experiences.
Describe how the ePortfolio and digital story can be used as vehicles to showcase students' global learning.
Apply theories of experiential learning and intercultural development to make a case for a credit-bearing reentry course.
